On May 17, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Touriade sports and tourist camp of Volga Federal District took place at Khvalynsk Ski Resort. More than 700 people from 14 regions of the district participate in the Touriade including the winners of regional tours, teams of students of the Socio-Cultural Service and Tourism direction, athletes, and coaches. They are to compete with each other for three days.

Oleg Mashkovtsev, the Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in Volga Federal District, and Roman Busargin, Acting Governor of Saratov Region, opened the Touriade sports and tourist camp. Patriotism was the main topic of the opening ceremony. The participants and volunteers stretched out a 35-meter St. George ribbon which emphasised the main topic of the meeting.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Rector of Saratov University Aleksei Chumachenko. ‘This is not my first time at this wonderful camp. Here I remember my youth because I was also engaged in orienteering and mountaineering. I am a geographer, and the tent is my home. Surely, we will win in the competitive and educational nomination,’ he said.

Acting Governor of Saratov Region Roman Busargin wished the participants good luck. The Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in Volga Federal District Oleg Mashkovtsev noted the traditionally high level of the camp. ‘I believe that the Touriade will be held at a high level as usual for which I thank the Government of the Saratov Region and all the organisers. I hope that the emotions that you will take away from the Touriade will allow you to remember it for a long time, and the friendship that you will find here will last a lifetime.’

Saratov Region at the Touriade is also represented by SSU students. They participate in a tourist quiz, a competition of tourist routes, sports competitions, and a presentation of the region.

The members of the Touriade live in tent camps. The camp combines sports and competitive educational blocks as well as cultural and leisure parts. Its programme includes competitions in cycling, swimming, and running. The bicycle ride will take place in Khvalynsk, and the rafting on catamarans, kayaks, and team relay will take place in Balakovo. The youth of Volga District will also participate in the following competitions: the tourist presentations of the regions of Volga Federal District, the Music of Hearts author's song, knowledge about tourism, the I Love You, Volga District video contest. For the first time, the winners of the Best Development of an Interregional Tourist Route in Volga Federal District competition will receive 400,000 rubles to organise a media tour along the developed route.

The Touriade sports and tourist camp of Volga Federal District has been held since 2013. This year, the camp has reached the international level: athletes from Uzbekistan will take part in the competition. The project is implemented on the initiative of Igor Komarov, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in Volga Federal District.
