The staff of Saratov University congratulates a veteran of the SSU Institute of Chemistry Sofia B. Pirkes on her 100^th anniversary!

For almost 50 years she has been an activist as Secretary of the Party Committee (party bureau) of the Faculty of Chemistry and a long-term secretary of her department. The colleagues and students have always respected Sofia Pirkes as a first-class researcher and lecturer.

Associate Professor of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry Sofia Perkes owns a PhD in chemistry. She established a new research school well-known in Russia and abroad. Her research has been developed by her students and followers.

Together with the department staff members and the scientists of the institute laboratory Sofia Pirkes has published more 500 research papers and delivered more than 100 reports in All-Soviet, international, and local conferences. Besides, she has been the scientific supervisor of 7 postgraduates who successfully defended their theses.

Sofia Pirkes has always treated her students with a great respect, ignited their curiosity, and encouraged them to conduct experiments by their own and discuss the results.

The university staff wishes that Sofia Pirkes would stay healthy and resilient and that her nearest and dearest, friends, colleagues and devoted students would lavish attention on her!
