On Saturday evening, the Regional Scientific Library welcomed visitors to the 2023 Library Night project. The topic of this year was literature as a way to unite generations – Reading Together.

The grand opening of the evening was waiting for the guests in the hall of the library. Acting Director of the SSU RSL Aleksei Zyuzin noted that the SSU library is participating in the All–Russian action for the third time. ‘The Library Night is an event that allows everyone to come to the library at an untimely time and attend all those events that are scattered on different days within a month. Today we have collected them “concentrated” especially for you!’

The youngest guests of the library from the Debut band of the Constellation-K Children's Creativity Centre performed patriotic songs, read S. Mikhalkov's poem Cripples in the Library and their own works. During the evening, open readings At the Bookshelf prepared by pupils of the Class Company school drama club of Gymnasium No. 89, Leninskii District, Saratov, were held in the hall, the Book Kaleidoscope was shown non-stop on the screen, and at the end of it there was music for dancing.

The quizzes started on three floors. The department of periodicals hosted the Literary Intuition game, the participants of which guessed the works of classical Russian and world literature. In the Media Hall, guests were able to participate in the School Years quiz on the films and see library novelties. In the department of rare books and manuscripts, the Reading Old Books quiz was held, the participants of which saw pages from rare old publications and tried to read them.

Throughout the evening, there were guided tours of the library departments, which are usually closed, for example, visitors were shown a multi-tiered book storage. And the reference and bibliographic department presented an exhibition-excursion about the secrets of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, which also presents articles about Saratov.

The Bouquet for the Library master-class for adults and children was held in the reading room of the research staff, the participants of which were able to draw bright floral paintings and take them home. A joint reading session of A.S. Pushkin's novel Eugene Onegin was held in the catalogue hall. Anyone could read a fragment of the first chapter and feel the atmosphere of a home evening with the family.

Thematic photo zones and exhibitions were located on different floors of the library: in the hall, guests were photographed with the I Love RSL, SSU stand and the I Have to Study ... location, and also viewed an exhibition of publications from the ABC and Recipe library collection and the Book Kaleidoscope video presentation.

On the ground floor, visitors saw a retro elevator, which used to carry books, and were able to take memorable pictures in it. On the second floor there is the exhibition of creative works by SSU employees entitled Our Talents, the Classical Writers Read Classics audio exhibition, a book and illustrative exhibition entitled At the Origins of Saratov Scientific Schools: Academicians and Corresponding Members of the USSR Academy of Sciences and RAS, and the Harry Potter thematic photo zone. On the third floor it was possible to get acquainted with the 260 Years of the Irgiz Old Believers book-illustrative-philocartical exhibition. On the top floor there is an exhibition entitled There is a Miracle on Earth with the Name of a Wonderful BOOK. Monuments to Books.

Thematic events were held in the conference hall all this time. At first, a literary and musical composition took place with the reading of poems dedicated to the SMO, under the general motto We Don’t Abandon our People. Next, the director of the Institute of Continuing Professional Education, Chair of the Department of International Relations and Russian Foreign Policy Yurii Golub, Chair of the Department of National History and Historiography Victor Danilov, and Professor of the same department Aleksei Gumenyuk presented the book Saratov Region in the Soviet Era.

The night in the library ended with a lecture by Professor of the Department of Literary Studies and Journalism, a finalist of the Lecturers League contest Kirill Zakharov. The topic of the speech is Through Fictional Worlds: Fiction and Us.

For the first time in three years, the Bookcrossing was held as part of the Library Night project, and everyone could take their favourite publications with them. And the postcrossing booth worked, where you could put a stamp on the Bible and get a commemorative postcard and a calendar as a gift.

In addition to a good mood, all participants received a lot of positive emotions as a gift, and in quizzes and games, each winner was given a memorable gift.
