On the Day of Slavic Writing, Saratov State University honoured the memory of its creators – Cyril and Methodius. Flowers were laid at the monument of the equal-to-the-Apostles saints by SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, vice-rectors, directors, and deans. The memory of the saints was honoured by SSU professors, staff, and students.

This tradition originated from the moment the monument was set near Bldg. 10 of State Saratov University and is held annually on the Day of Memory of Cyril and Methodius.

‘The fact that there is a monument to Cyril and Methodius near our university is not just an honour for us, but also a duty to preserve cultural traditions,’ Maria Chevtayeva, a participant in the ceremony, a 4th-year student of the Institute of History and International Relations said.

The solemn event was preceded by the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Methodius and Cyril. After that, the parishioners, led by Archpriest Kirill, joined in the laying and sang the greatness of the saints at the monument.
