For more than half a century, Yurii Golub have been connected with the university. In 1975, he graduated with honours from the Faculty of History and run the gamut, from a postgraduate to Doctor of Sciences, from an assistant to a professor, from a chair of the department to a vice-rector. Today, he is heading the Institute of Continuing Professional Education, which he has been leading for almost 20 years, and the Department of International Relations and Russian Foreign Policy, the Institute of History and International Relations.

For more than four decades of work at the university, Yurii Golub has become an experienced professor and a prominent scholar, an extraordinary lecturer and an effective leader. He has supervised twenty-two candidate's and three doctoral dissertations in history and politics which have been successfully presented. In 2010, it was he who initiated to establish the Department of International Relations and Russian Foreign Policy of Russia at SSU, which he headed. Since 2005, the annual interuniversity collection of scientific papers, Education in the Modern World, has been published under his editorship. Seventeen issues have been published.

Yurii Golub has been doing research in political, diplomatic and military history of the twentieth century, as well as education. He is the author and co-author of six monographies, numerous articles, and the responsible editor of collective papers on this subject. He heads the Modern Eurasian Studies scientific journal.

He is a member of the Research-to-Methodology Council for the History of the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and Science, a full member of the Academy of Military Sciences, a full member of the Academy of Humanities, a member of the Board of the Association of European Studies, and Honourary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation.

Professor Yurii Golub has been awarded with the honorary title Honoured Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation for his achievements in research pedagogy, training of qualified specialists, and long-term conscientious work.
