There were announced the results of the semi-finals of the third season of the All-Russian contest of educators entitled Lecturers League. Professor of the Department of Literary Studies and Journalism Kirill Zakharov passed to the final.

To remind, the semi-finals of the contest took place at the end of March. At this stage, Kirill Zakharov gave a lecture entitled Mass Culture: Codes and Symbols of the World of Teenagers. In his speech, he analysed archaic symbols and images that appeared in popular culture of different times and their interaction with the modern popular culture.

The objects of his analysis were rap, anime, and computer games, and the lecturer commented on its cultural aspects using examples from history, mythology, and musical evolution. In particular, it was pointed out that rap closed the trends demonstrated for the first time by composer Richard Wagner, and anime was a synthetic genre that had absorbed a wide range of mythological, epic, literary, -theatrical, and television genres. A special part in the lecture was dedicated to the study of rhythm as a universal cultural code of each epoch.

According to the results of the online voting, Kirill Zakharov entered the top-100 lecturers and received the right to continue participating in the Lecturers League finals. The final stage of the contest will be held from May 16 to 17. The winners of the semi-finals will perform for a wide audience at Russian leading universities.
