A two-day scientific seminar entitled Photonics Days in Saratov has opened at Saratov University today. Scientists and students of Saratov State University and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology gathered in the Large Physical Hall, Bldg. 3. The conference is held for the first time, but scientists hope that it will become a good tradition.
The seminar was opened by Professor of the Centre for Photonics and Photonic Technologies, Skoltech, Head of the Biophotonics Laboratory Dmitrii Gorin. He is a graduate of Saratov State University and worked as a professor at the Department of Semiconductor Physics.
‘The Photonics Days in Saratov seminar is an association of scientists from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and Saratov State University. I am very pleased to be here, in my alma mater. 25 years of my life are connected with Saratov University: I was a student, a professor. I am glad that colleagues and friends of Saratov State University organised this seminar and provided the best audience of the university for this meeting,’ Dmitrii Gorin said.
Director of the Institute of Physics, SSU, Sergei Venig welcomed the guests of the seminar and wished success to the participants. ‘I am very pleased to welcome guests in our city, in our wonderful hall. I remember how 16 years ago Dmitrii Gorin and I decided to hold a seminar on nanoparticles, which turned into a series of seven conferences that took place around the world. Perhaps the Photonics Days in Saratov seminar will be held in the future and will provide interesting scientific cooperation between our teams of scientists,’ Sergei Venig said.
The purpose of the joint seminar is to attract the attention of young scientists, students, and postgraduates to photonics and to talk about the advantages of a new field. The seminar is designed to strengthen scientific cooperation between Saratov State University and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. The objectives of the meeting include attracting industrial and clinical partners to cooperate with scientists from SSU and Skoltech.
During the seminar, SSU scientists will talk about biomedical research: management of optical properties of biological tissues, intra- and transdermal drug delivery, photoacoustic and fluorescent in vivo cytometry systems, thermal imaging diagnostics, as well as modern technologies and materials for electronics. Skoltech will share its research results in optics, photonics, and nanophotonics.
Today, guests from Skoltech visited the SSU laboratories on a guided tour.
At the end of the seminar, its members will discuss the cooperation between Saratov State University and Skoltech in education, as well as applied and fundamental research.
