On January 20, a meeting of the Union of Rectors of Saratov Region was held at Saratov State University. It was attended by the rectors of the regional universities. The meeting was held by the Chair of the Council, SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko.
The key issue on the agenda was the discussion of the upcoming 22nd Youth Delphic Games, which will be held in Saratov from April 21 to 26. The Deputy Chair of the Government of Saratov Region, Minister of Education Mikhail Orlov commented on the preparations for the large-scale event.
According to the minister, creative youth will come from all over the country. About 2,000 guests are expected, more than 500 volunteers will be involved. The meeting discussed the placement of non-resident participants and the work of the venues.
The competitive and festival programme of the games will include competitions in 34 disciplines that contribute to the development of creative industries, the identification of young talents and unique specialists.
Mikhail Orlov also recalled that the upcoming year had been declared the Year of the Teacher and Mentor. ‘We are talking not only about school teachers, but also the university community, employees of arts and sports schools, those who are engaged in museum business. All these people are directly related to the pedagogical sphere.’
The Head of the Centre for Countering Extremism of the Russian Ministry of Internal in Saratov region, Police Colonel Stanislav Skorodumov presented a report on organisational and practical measures aimed at countering the spread of destructive ideologies among young people.
Last year, the staff of the Centre for Countering Extremism conducted 43 group preventive measures with a total audience of over 5,800 students.
In addition, 8 higher and 51 secondary specialised educational institutions of the region (a total of 30 thousand students) conducted legal propaganda meetings among students based on the materials of the CCE. 7 universities and 9 professional educational institutions of Saratov joined the campaign entitled We Are Not Against Hatred and Xenophobia which were attended by more than 10 thousand respondents.
The meeting participants also discussed other issues related to the implementation of national projects, competitions, and other programmes necessary for the university community.
During the meeting, the Union of Rectors approved the plan for 2023 and the members of the Presidium.
