Faculty of Fundamental Medicine and Medical Technologies Held First BioMeeting
SSU has held the BioMeeting Fundamental and Applied Medicine All-Russian conference of young scientists. This is the first conference on the basis of the new Faculty of Fundamental Medicine and Medical Technologies. It was held on November 29 and November 30.
The BioMeeting Fundamental and Applied Medicine conference is addressed to students, postgraduates, doctoral students and young scientists conducting research in the field of fundamental medicine and related fields. The geography of the participants of the event covers Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel, Perm, and other cities.
The plenary session was opened by Rector Aleksei Chumachenko. He addressed the participants and listeners of the conference, first of all to students and those who are just starting their way into science. ‘It is always difficult to be the first, but it is an honour. It's great that the faculty is starting to take the first steps in science. At our university, scientists have achieved serious success in the field of medical technologies. This conference will give you the opportunity to get to know more about the scientific research that is being conducted at SSU. Wonderful researchers will be speaking here. We hope that you will continue to develop the promising areas that our university has.’ The Rector drew attention to the importance of in-depth study of medicine related to physics, chemistry and cybernetics.
Vice-Rector for Research and Digital Development Aleksei Koronovskii congratulated the university doctors on the first conference. ‘The university is a large and harmonious organism. Every year we hold about 200 scientific conferences on various topics and at different levels. Among them there are those that we rightfully consider our calling card – conferences, without which it is difficult to imagine a university. Today you stand at the origins. At the 25th or 30th BioMeeting conference, you will remember how you were a participant in the first historical conference. Today we are witnesses of this historic moment,’ he said.
Professor of the Department of Fundamentals of Medicine and Medical Technologies Nikolai Ostrovskii addressed the young scientists. ‘You are the ones who will develop our science. Today we have a faculty of fundamental medicine and medical technologies at the university, and it's worth a lot. This faculty pushes your horizons, you have somewhere to go, something to do, something to come up with. Medicine needs you, your fresh heads and burning eyes, which I see in this audience.’
Dean of the Faculty of FM&MT, Co-Chair of the BioMeeting Sergei Kireyev thanked the administration of Saratov University for their help in organizing the conference. ‘The main participants of the conference are young people. Our goal is to form a model for students of the result of scientific work, the introduction of new ideas into practice. Medicine cannot be imagined without modern technologies. At the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine and Medical Technologies, natural science achievements are focused on the actualization of practical medical activities. The reports that will be presented at the conference are examples of interdisciplinary approaches to solving topical issues of modern medicine and fundamental science,’ he said.
At the plenary session on the first day of the conference, the results of their research were shared by venerable scientists of SSU and their colleagues from other cities: Dean of the Faculty of FM&MT Sergei Kireyev, Director of the Institute of Chemistry Irina Goryacheva, Chair of the Department of Medical Physics, SSU, Anatolii Skripal, Chair of the Department of Optics and Biophotonics Valerii Tuchin, Chair of the Division of Computer Modelling in Biomedicine and Materials Science Dmitrii Ivanov, Associate Professor of the Department of Mathematic Theory of Elasticity and Biomechanics Alexander Dol, Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Medical Institute, Tambov State University Sergei Emelyanov, surgeon resident of City Clinical Hospital No. 30 in Nizhny Novgorod Maksim Bagryantsev, Professor of Perm State University Aleksei Kuchumov, and Professor Daniil Puchinyan. You can find the conference programme here.
By video conference call, Senior Researcher of the Centre for Photonics of Lobachevsky University Marina Sirotkina made a report titled The structural and functional study of the microcirculatory bed by OCT angiography. She spoke about the advantages of optical coherence tomography with angiography. The diagnostic method visualizes an increase in blood flow during inflammation and neoangiogenesis and a weakening of blood flow during thrombosis, antiangiogenic therapy and narrowing of the vascular lumen.
Professor of the Department of Fundamentals of Medicine and Medical Technologies Nikolai Ostrovskii spoke about innovative nanostructured wound coatings, the experience of their creation, clinical observations and prospects for use. He presented a joint development of SSU scientists and specialists of the Regional Clinical Centre of Kombustiology – the Chitopran wound-healing bandage based on chitosan nanofibers.
Chair of the Department of Human and Animal Physiology Oksana Semyachkina-Glushkovskaya devoted a report to the lymphatic system of the brain and innovative methods of neurorehabilitation. She explained the technology of nighttime photostimulation of lymphatic release of beta-amyloid from the brain tissues of mice and shared the successes of scientists of the Smart Sleep laboratory in the development of portable smart technologies for managing the restorative properties of sleep.
Breakout sessions in three areas – Medical Biophysics, Medical Cybernetics. Medical Biomechanics, and Medical Biochemistry – with the participation of students and young scientists were held on November 30. Konstantin Maryankin, a student of the Faculty of FM&MT, spoke about the experience of using the SmartPlanOrtho 3D medical decision support system in preoperative planning. Alsu Khaliulova, a student of the new faculty, presented the report titled The computer processing of the Romberg sample.
In addition, as part of the second day of the conference, a round table meeting was held, where reports were presented in English by SSU and SSMU students.
According to the results of BioMeeting Fundamental and Applied Medicine All-Russian conference of young scientists, it is planned to publish the research journal indexed in RSCI.
