On November 29, teachers, students and undergraduates of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training, players of the Saratov University football team visited a secondary school with a structural unit for orphans and children left without parental care in the village of Belogornoye, Volsk District. The athletes and their coaches talked with the students of the school, held a master class in indoor football and played an exhibition game.

The institute staff members commented on the admissions campaign at Saratov University and noted the achievements of the university in the educational and sports sphere. Thanks to such meetings, schoolchildren receive additional motivation to study well, begin to actively participate in sections and circles of various directions.

During the meeting with the students, Chair of the Department of Sports Games Roman Danilov spoke about the entrance tests at the university and the courses at the Institute of Sports and Physical Training. Senior Lecturer of the same department Oleg Dergunov noted the participation of university students in competitions of various levels and the significant role of SSU in the preparation of athletes in the region.

‘The most important thing for you now is to study well and participate in various extracurricular activities, show diligence to work. Doing what you love will help you choose your path. I have no doubt that those who are currently engaged in sports will be able to get a good education and build a wonderful career,’ Roman Danilov pointed out.

The coach of the university team, the instructor of the SSU Sports Club Alan Dryaev drew attention to the success of the athletes: the university football team has repeatedly won prestigious tournaments of regional, Russian and world significance. The SSU football team is a two–time winner of the International Interuniversity Championship. At the end of the conversation, the guys were presented with the pennant of the university team, as well as three professional soccer balls.

The athletes held a mini-football master class, shared the basic techniques of the game and showed the basic elements of ball possession. The friendly match between the players of the SSU national team and the school team was held in a friendly atmosphere and ended with an equal score.

The school administration presented gratitude to the Department of Sports Games, SSU, for organising career guidance and conducting a master class.

It should be noted that in October, 16 children from the People's Republic of Donetsk aged from 7 to 18 years arrived at the Vols District. The children were evacuated from their home boarding schools at the beginning of the year. ‘Students immediately made friends with their peers and are already actively mastering the educational program. By their arrival, the school had all the necessary conditions for living and studying: comfortable separate blocks for living, spacious classrooms and equipped school premises for active recreation,’ Principal Nadezhda Noskova said.

A 9th-grader Victoria Sh. shared the story of her stay at the boarding school. ‘I am very glad that I ended up at this school. The teachers and the guys with whom we quickly found a common language provided all the support we needed after we had to leave our native places. It is very pleasant to study here, our teachers always support us. I am fond of sports, in particular athletics. Meeting with teachers and athletes helped me understand where I want to go.’

In total, 120 children from the village of Belogornoye and neighbouring settlements study at the school. Of the total number of children, 36 schoolchildren left without parental care and orphaned children live and study in an educational organization on a permanent basis.
