On November 9, a well-known TV presenter, a member of the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Defence Arina Sharapova visited Saratov University and met with SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko.

They discussed the university involvement in public life. The meeting was attended by Chair of the Public Council under the Ministry of Education of Saratov Region Sergei Saratovskii, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Igor Malinskii, and Vice-rector for Youth Policy and Organisational Work Anton Golovchenko.

Arina Sharapova presented Aleksei Chumachenko with a letter of appreciation from the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Defence for the initiative and personal contribution to the implementation of educational projects and events at a high organizational level.

The guest was invited to the SSU History Museum, where the head of the museum, Larisa Shipilova, spoke about the main achievements of the university and the stages of its development. Special attention was paid to the work of the university during the Great Patriotic War.

A creative meeting with Arina Sharapova was organised for students of SSU and SSMU, educators, and public figures. The audience asked her about her professional activities, how the famous TV presenter struggled with the fear of public speaking. The guest said that a traditional exercise helped her – reading texts in front of a mirror. The main advice for future journalists, given by Arina Sharapova, is to be inquisitive and always remember ethical standards.

Also, she expressed her admiration for a whole group talented people and public figures – natives of Saratov Region. ‘Saratov Region is blessed by God. I have been to different cities, but I have never met such a concentration of great people anywhere,’ the TV presenter noted.

Arina Sharapova said that proper goal setting and prioritisation helps personal development. ‘Today, it is very important for young people to participate in public work, starting from school and university. You should not be afraid to take on serious work and agree to leadership positions. Today, social work attracts more and more people, I meet a huge number of volunteers. And this is very pleasing.’

She participated in a panel discussion held at the university. It was titled The Era of Uncertainty or a Window of Opportunity? Human Capital in the Modern World. Read more about the event here.
