The Young Researcher badge has been given at Saratov University for the first time. Deputy Director of Mechanics and Physics Research Institute, SSU, Senior Researcher of the Magnetic Metamaterials Laboratory, Associate Professor of the Department of Open Systems Physics, the Institute of Physics, Alexander Sadovnikov was highly evaluated for his achievements in research. The solemn awarding ceremony took place at a meeting of the Academic Council, the honourary badge was presented by the SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko.

Alexander Sadovnikov has been a scientist for about 15 years. He is the author of more than 60 research papers in central refereed Russian and international scientific journals, has received more than 10 patents for inventions and utility models, and has experience in managing projects supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and Russian Science Foundation.

He is conducting various research, including work with the only Mandelstam–Brillouin spectroscopy complex in Russia. In addition, Saratov University holds a leading position in Russia in research of magnetic metamaterials. ‘We are a very important part in the field of measurement technologies in the country. This measuring unit is unique. Now we are becoming leaders in Russia in this direction,’ Alexander Sadovnikov about the scope of his work.

He is also implementing strategic projects of the Priority 2030 programme. The program gave a new impetus for young researchers to show themselves and to be involved in research of the university even more.

‘Studying and working at the university helps develop both research and personal skills. This badge should be considered as support from the university and society. Such a high assessment motivates to work and conduct research with a new impulse, to embark on the path of independent decision-making in important research issues. On the other hand, this encouragement symbolises the interesting and eventful path that young scientists go through from undergraduate to postgraduate courses and work in laboratories. I am very grateful for the trust in my research. Also, I would like to express my gratitude to my mentors and the strong scientific school of the university, without which I would not have been able to become so successful,’ Alexander Sadovnikov commented.

He has already been given various awards several times. So, at the beginning of the year, his research project was recognised as one of the best, and he became the winner of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation grant competition for master’s degree courses professors. In addition, Alexander Sadovnikov was honoured to be listed on the city Board of Honour.
