On December 21, the awarding ceremony of the Height award winners took place. They became research-to-education workers of higher educational institutions of Saratov Region. This year, 21 members of the teaching staff from 7 regional universities have received the award, including the following three SSU staff members – Professor August Khromov, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Galina Komkova, and Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Physics Andrei Rytik.

Governor of Saratov Region Valerii Radayev held an award ceremony for the winners of the Height award. The Governor recalled that 2021 was declared by the President of Russia as the Year of Science and Technology. ‘This award is special because we are presenting it in the Year of Science and Technology. This is an area that most of you are professionally engaged in involving your students in it and giving them new knowledge aimed at the future.’

Galina Komkova was the first among the SSU representatives to be awarded. This year, she has already won the Lawyer of the Year award. The dean of the Faculty of Law is the author of more than 330 research and methodological works with a total volume of about 350 printed sheets. A team of authors, including Galina Komkova, has published 18 monographies, 24 textbooks, 3 courses of lectures, and 65 study guides. At present, her research school is forming: 43 candidate dissertations and 5 doctoral dissertations have been defended under her scientific supervision. Her students and she study the system of constitutional law, human rights, their provision and protection. In addition, Galina Komkova is the head of two projects supported by RFBR.

For many years August Khromov headed the Department of Differential Equations and Applied Mathematics since its foundation in 1976. His main research interests are in the spectral theory of operators. His achievements have long been recognised worldwide. In recent years, he has obtained original results in solving well-known problems of mathematical physics, and at the present time he continues to work fruitfully. At the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, he created and is actively working a school on the spectral theory of differential and integral operators, on approximation and optimisation of problems of real and complex analysis.

August Khromov has made a significant contribution to the organisation of mathematical life in Saratov. He is one of the main moderators of the famous Saratov schools of function theory, which is attended by mathematicians from all over Russia and neighbouring countries – from postgraduates to academicians. More than 15 years August Khromov headed the dissertation council.

Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Physics and Programme Director of the Boiling Point Centre Andrei Rytik is the author of more than 100 publications, including 5 educational and methodical, 10 patents for inventions, utility models, and computer programmes. He has been awarded with 11 silver and 5 gold medals for projects, has diplomas, letters of appreciation, and certificates of honour. At the IV Saratov Salon of Inventions, Innovations, and Investments he was awarded the Grand Prix in the Best Invention of the Year nomination for his A device for assessing the functional and psycho-emotional state of a person project.

‘The presentation was held on December 21, the 21st year of the 21st century. Of course, numerology has nothing to do with it but there is a certain symbolism in it. The future is determined by modern students and schoolchildren, who today invent, design, engage in creativity, do research, set goals, and achieve them. As a teacher, I can say that I am pleased to work with those students who are passionate about science, technical creativity, and those who are trying to change the world for the better. The Height award is a merit of the team of students and professors of our entire university. Honourably, that such a good tradition as the annual Height award is celebrated by the top officials of Saratov Region,’ Andrei Rytik shared his impressions.

The Height award has been given for the sixth time for high achievements in pedagogy and research. The project was initiated by Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
