SSU Students Won 11 medals in World Championship in Swimming

From 15 to 22 November, in Gliwice, Poland, there took place the World Championship in Swimming among athletes with hearing impairments. The competition was attended by athletes from Argentina, Chile, Cyprus, Venezuela, Germany, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Holland, Spain, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.

As part of the Russian national team, the athletes from the Saratov Regional Sports Training Centre, the participants of the Region Hope Olympic Reserve Sports School, as well as the athletes from the Rehabilitation and Physical Education Youth Sports School took part in the tournament. The national team included 2nd-year students of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training, SSU: International Master of Sports Philip Torishnyi and Honoured Master of Sports Andrei Zhivayev.

The athlete of the regional center of sports training, Honoured Master of Sports of Russia Philip Torishnyi won two gold medals in the 4x200 m freestyle relay and at the 400 m freestyle as well as one bronze medal at the 1,500 m freestyle. The athlete is coached by Eduard Gryuner.

Honoured Master of Sports Andrei Zhivayev won one gold medal in 4x100 m freestyle relay (world record), 4x50 m freestyle, 4x100 m complex (world record), another gold medal in 50, 100 and 200 m freestyle (world records for 50 m and 100 m), and silver medal in 50 m and 100 m butterfly. As a result of the tournament, Andrei became a six-time world champion. Galina Filippova is training the athlete.

According to the results of the championship, the Saratov athletes entered their names into the table of world records 14 times and brought 17 medals to the national team score, 11 of which were won by the students of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training.
