Two-Day EthnoHoliday SSU Partner Media Project Won 2021 Nation Pride Award

The SSU partner media project titled the Two-Day EthnoHoliday has received the "2021 Nation Pride All-Russian public award.

The Nation Pride public award has been given since 2020 for an outstanding personal contribution into the ethnic and cultural development and strengthening of the unity of the peoples of Russia. This year, the competition for the prize was held by the House of the Peoples of Russia in partnership with the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia All-Russian public organization with the support of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs (FAEA), the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, the State Duma, the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of Moscow, the Polenov Russian State House of Folk Art, the TASS News Agency, the Foundation for the Preservation and Study of the Native Languages ​​of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, and the Interethnic Journalism Guild.

In total, the organising committee received 912 applications from 85 regions, and the award jury chose 26 nominees in 7 nominations. The ceremony took place within the second Peoples of Russia All-Russian Forum, which was held on November 18-19 by the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs.

In the Best Project of National and Cultural Unity in Interethnic Relations nomination the first place was taken by the Saratov media project aimed to popularise intraregional ethno-tourism – the Two-Day EthnoHoliday. It has been implemented since 2020 by the Local Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy of Saratov public organisation with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund, the Ministry of Internal Policy and Public Relations of Saratov Region, and Saratov State University.

Today, the multichannel project combines the TV show about domestic ethnotourism in Saratov Region, the site-ethnoencyclopedia of the region, active social networks (@64etno), and the EthnoGuide in Saratov Region mobile application to help independent tourists. In the first season, the project team talked about 10 fascinating family ethnic routes to visit different nationalities inhabiting Saratov Region, now 10 more episodes of the second TV season are being filmed. Expert comments and media materials are gathered with the help of the researchers and students of the Institute of History and International Relations, the Institute of Philology and Journalism, the Faculty of Philosophy, SSU. One of the creative project solutions became the unofficial tourist anthem of the region, which was supported by the television and Internet audience amounted to 1,3 million people in two years.

An honorary All-Russian Award of the first degree was received in Moscow by the EthnoHoliday team – the project author, a journalist Maria Karmanova; Deputy Chair of the Local Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy of Saratov Irina Veisman; Head of the Administration of Priority Projects and Programmes, SSU, Maria Yerokhina. All awardees are graduates of Saratov University. The laureates were awarded with a commemorative statuette, personalised diplomas, and prize badges.

This is not the first high expert assessment of the project: in 2020 the EthnoHoliday entered the short list of the Silver Archer – Volga Region largest regional PR award, became the winner of the 2020 Federation VI All-Russian Open Television Competition, and entered the short list of pitching finalists of the My Planet TV channel. At the beginning of October, the Two-Day EthnoHoliday show got into the finals of the Tefi-Region prestigious television competition in the Entertainment Project nomination, the results of which will be announced on November 25 in St. Petersburg. In addition, the media project reached the finals of the SMIrotvorets XIII All-Russian Media Competition for the best coverage of issues of interethnic, ethnic and confessional relations, the winners of which will be announced on November 29 in Moscow. And the project music video will compete for the title of the best in the finals of the district stage of the Miracle of Russia VIII All-Russian Festival-Competition of Tourist Videos in the Tourist Destinations nomination, the results of which will be announced on December 9 in Nizhny Novgorod.
