In honour of the 193rd birth anniversary of Nikolay Chernyshevsky at the Saratov University staff held festive events. In the university campus, flowers were laid at the writer monument. The ceremony was attended by SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, SSU Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Organisational Work Anton Golovchenko, Director of the N.G. Chernyshevsky Museum Elena Manova, Director of the SSU History Museum Larisa Stepanyan, and activists of the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Council.

Aleksei Chumachenko noted that this year we would begin to prepare for the 100th anniversary of the university being named after Chernyshevsky. The anniversary event is planned to be celebrated in two years. This date is very significant for the university. The celebration preparations are being carried out jointly with the N.G. Chernyshevsky Museum.

‘The previous two years have prevented us from returning to events the way we would like. But there is important preparation ahead for the centenary of the university being named after Chernyshevsky. We are already preparing for this celebration, thinking over the agenda, which will be planned not for a day but for the entire anniversary year,’ the rector shared.

In addition, a Chernyshevsky and Saratov exhibition has opened today at the SSU History Museum, which presents drawings by Lev Radishchev, a great-grandson of a famous writer Alexander Radishchev. The artist's works were completed in the 1925-1930s for the first exposition of the N.G. Chernyshevsky Museum. Each painting by Lev Radishchev was created to reflect the memorable places associated with Chernyshevsky. The canvases depict buildings at the Chernyshevskys estate, Saratov streets and houses that he visited. The artist also drew old Saratov and its surroundings, which have changed little since the time Chernyshevsky was there.

You can visit the exhibition from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. It will be displayed on the 4th floor in SSU Bldg. X until August 20.
