On May 9, there took place a ceremony of laying flowers at the Memorial to SSU and SSMU employees and students who died during the Great Patriotic War in the campus.

The ceremony dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Great Victory was attended by a delegation of teaching staff members and students of the Saratov State University. It was headed by Rector Aleksei Chumachenko. The SSMU delegation was headed by Rector Andrei Yeremin.

The delegations honoured the blessed memory of the fallen during the war with a minute of silence, and after that they laid flowers and wreaths at the memorial.

‘Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, everything is modest here – without students and solemn speeches, without freshmen. It is always very important when the first-year students are introduced to the traditions of the university. This is a truly great holiday. Every time we remember our heroes, and every time we find new names of those who fought. Last year, the book titled Their Names Are in Our Memory was published, which contains the very new surnames. And how many of them have been lost, how many have we undeservedly forgotten?! The memory does not go anywhere, and over time, our young people only begin to become more imbued with the spirit of patriotism, realising the importance and significance of this holiday,’ SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko.

Taking into account the restrictions associated with the spread of coronavirus, the SSU Student Club has prepared an online festive concert for Victory Day. In the feed of the official group of the Student Club on VKontakte, vocal and dance concert items appear in the recording from the very morning. You can watch the concert by following the link.
