The annual ceremony of laying flowers at Nicholas Chernyshevsky’s memorial at the Resurrection Cemetery took place on the birthday of a Russian writer, publicist, scientist, and public figure. On behalf of Saratov University the memory of the writer was honoured by SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko. The ceremony was also attended by Director of the Nickolas Chernyshevsky Estate Museum Elena Manova, Honoured Cultural Worker of Russia Galina Murenina, and others.

Aleksei Chumachenko noted that the Chernyshevsky is significant for the university, therefore, we do a lot to preserve the memory of the great thinker. Every year, the university together with the Nicholas Chernyshevsky Estate Museum conducts scientific conferences, panel discussions, andmeetings dedicated to the study and understanding of his legacy. The SSU History Museum has an exposition about Chernyshevsky due to which freshmen can get acquainted with his works.

“The name of Nikolai Chernyshevsky is constantly heard at the university, but we also talk about him outside the university. Our students and employees speaking at all-Russian and international events glorify his name. The university scientists publish their research on the legacy of Chernyshevsky, they are the authors and scientific editors of a serial scientific journal published for many years in our city. The annual solemn line-up of freshmen takes place near the Chernyshevsky Monument installed on SSU Student Square. This is the contribution we make to preserve the memory of this person,” Aleksei Chumachenko highlighted.
