On 8 February the XXXVIII All-Russia 2020 Ski Track of Russia took place in Bazarno-Karabulaksii District, Saratov Region. This year it was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. More than 12,000 skiers participated in the track.

The event was attended by Governor of Saratov Region Valerii V. Radayev, Head of the Saratov City Municipal Structure Mikhail A. Isayev, head of other municipal structures, and representatives of various ministries and government bodies.

Saratov University was represented by more than 30 people. The delegation consisted of Rector Aleksei N. Chumachenko, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Organizational Work Anton V. Golovchenko, and other members of the faculty and institute staff. SSU international students also took part in the ski track.

The event looked like a real winter holiday. The guests were entertained by the region art groups for the whole day. They sang and showed sketches devoted to the Great Patriotic War.

Besides, the skiers could visit the historic re-enactment where they were shown the ammunition and armoured vehicles. Also there were organised national habitations. The guests learnt about the everyday life of Saratov Region nations, their clothes and food.

Before the start Governor Valerii Radayev addressed to the audience.

“This annual traditional track is steeped in history – it is connected with the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. We will remember the year of commemoration and glory as the time of peaceful victories in sports and labour. Its symbols are the unity and pride for the past and the present, and onward progress. And the 2020 Ski Track of Russia is about it. Today there 12,000 people here, and 150,000 people participated in the qualifying competitions.”

At 12 p. m. the track started, and the skiers flooded the track. Both professionals and amateurs took part in the race. This year juniors had the 5 km distance track, and men and women – the 10 km distance track.

Students of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training became the prize winners: a 4th-year student Diana Sayushkina became the first in the 10 km distance track, and a 3rd-year student Anastasia Kalinina got the 6th place there.

The best athletes were awarded with medals and letters of appreciation as well as prizes from the Governor.

Diana Sayushkina shared her impressions about the race.

“I have participated in the Ski Track of Russia for the fifth time. Being Master of Sport in biathlon it was important for me to prove my pro status. I have trained for the whole season as I am going to take part in other competitions. It was not easy to gain the victory as the other athletes were really strong. Thus, one of them was World Champion in biathlon Anastasia Khaliullina.”
