On 5 October the ceremony hall of Bldg. X hosted the anniversary ceremony of the only Faculty of Nonlinear Processes in Russia, and a few generations attended the event – the faculty staff members, its postgraduates, students, graduates, colleagues, and friends as well as guests from other cities.
Notably, 25 years ago the faculty was established in Saratov University. In his welcoming speech Dean of the faculty Yurii I. Lyevin reminded the audience about it’s the unique history of the only one educational institutions of that kind. It was founded in 1994 as College of Applied Sciences (which was equal to faculties). Then it has been developing within a federal testing site. He added that now we could see that experiment had succeeded. The faculty graduates better adapt in the modern world due to the education concept based on nonlinear dynamics, a groundbreaking interdisciplinary research.
Yurii Lyevin concentrated on the special role of ‘Trubetskov’s team’ consisting of the researchers and lecturers headed by Corresponding Member of RAS Dmitrii I. Trubetskov. It should be noted that his research school is officially recognised. The team veterans also appeared on stage. The research group has been growing, young people have joined it, and the hosts became young members of the team – one of the faculty graduates, Assistant of the Department of Electronics, Vibrations, and Waves Aleksei V. Titiov and a master degree student of the faculty Maria Tambovtseva.
The guests were also welcomed by Vice-Rector for Research Work, Chair of the Department of Open Systems Physics, Professor Aleksei A. Koronovskii. He read the congratulatory letter from SSU Rector, Professor Aleksei N. Chumachenko.
‘Today the Faculty of Nonlinear Processes is the flagship of fundamental research in radiophysics and UHF electronics. The brilliant future of the faculty relies on highly qualified researchers, great experiment facilities, and perspective young scientists!’ was written in the letter.
Aleksei Koronovskii added that he was proud to have worked at the faculty for 25 years. Moreover, he thanked all the people who had ever contributed to the faculty development. The vice-rector hoped that the faculty would develop more rapidly and that the event members would somehow cooperate with the faculty.
The anniversary guests applauded Scientific Supervisor of the faculty, Professor, Honoured Citizen of Saratov Dmitrii Trubetskov.
‘Today is a celebratory date not only for our faculty! Today I would like to congratulate you on Teachers’ Day! Before the anniversary two faculty graduates have defended their PhDs. Also now there takes place the 12th International School and Conference on Chaotic Oscillations and Pattern Formation. What a pleasant coincidence! Once we decided to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the faculty, and I dedicated a poem to it. Today I would like to continue this tradition. 12 years have passed, and the faculty is still alive! Coincidentally, the Chaos-12 is held!’
The Faculty of Nonlinear Processes is well-known in Russia because it is unique. Therefore, guests from all over the country were present at the event. Head of the Office of Physics Sciences of RAS, Deputy Academician Secretary of the Division of Physics Sciences of RAS on Research and Organisational Work Natalia L. Istomina underlined that the faculty had become a powerful intelligent centre of the university.
‘Nowadays many leading specialists from your faculty work in research and development laboratories and institutes,’ she added.
The faculty has been connected with corporate departments. We cannot imagine education without them today. The education at the faculty includes research and the facilities of academic and sectoral research institute, and it is one of its distinct features. The faculty was also congratulated by representatives of Almaz Research and Development Enterprise LLC. and Saratov Branch of Kotelnikov Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics of RAS.
On behalf of SSU deans of the faculties and directors of the institutes, who also were on stage, Dean of the Faculty of Physics Valerii M. Anikin congratulated the faculty staff.
‘The faculty establishment was remarkable as well as its development. The faculty has turned out to be a kind of a plant where researchers write and defend their PhDs and further works. The research school of Dmitrii Trubetskov has been developing, according to the universal laws. It gradually enlarges and accelerates!’
In addition, another SSU structure unit joined to the congratulations, namely the Programmers Olympiad Training Center named after N.L. Andreeva, and a speech was given by its Head Antonina G. Fyodorova.
The hosts commented that two graduates of the Faculty of Physics, who graduated in 1957, were also present at the ceremony.
‘These people have been dealing with our graduates as they chair the State Qualification Committee of the faculty.’
Professors Vill B. Baiburin and Vladimir K. Semenov joined to the congratulations.
The faculty has been closely connected with Lyceum of Applied Sciences, and many lyceum graduates, colleagues and friends congratulated the faculty, too.
New students sparkle the faculty life, they appeared on stage and made the oath ‘always to think nonlinearly, use synchronisation for the benefit of the humankind, and prove (believe) that chaos is the basis of the universe!’
Physics cannot live without lyricism, therefore, students of the faculty showed their winning performance items.
At the end of the event, the choir sang the Anthem of the Faculty of Nonlinear Processes, which united the whole ‘nonlinear community’ in the SSU ceremony hall, Bldg. X.
