Admission Campaign for State-Funded Master Degree Courses Ended in Saratov University
On August 14 enrolees passed the last entrance exams to state-funded master degree courses in Saratov University. The admission campaign for master degree courses on fee-paying basis will last till August 29.
According to the campaign results, many graduates have decided to enter master degree courses because they want to acquire more profound knowledge in their professional sphere, or get knowledge in some other field, or in case they must attend professional re-training courses.
The enrolees include graduates with bachelor degrees, employees of enterprises and private companies, directors of educational institutions as well as psychologists and pedagogues who would like to receive one more diploma of higher education.
Director of the Central Admissions Committee Sergei S. Khmelyov commented that the average enrolment points for state-funded master degree courses had slightly risen in comparison with the previous year. 1,428 people have applied for full-time state-funded master degree courses, and 556 of them will be enrolled for the mentioned courses, therefore, the enrolment rate is 2,17 people per place (2,06 people per place a year ago).
There were 102 state target places, but via that programme only 4 people have been enrolled (the Institute of Sports and Physical Training, the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education, and the Institute of Chemistry). Sergei Khmelyov said that students should have used such an opportunity in order not to have problems with finding a job later.
Now there are 207 applications for full-time master degree courses on fee-paying basis, and the admission campaign for these courses will last.
Top-5 popular courses are in law, geography, foreign languages teaching, psychology, and psychological and pedagogical education – social pedagogy.
669 people have applied for state-funded off-site courses, and 150 of them have been finally enrolled. Thus, its enrolment rate is 4,5 people per place (3,06 people per place last year).
There were 14 state-funded places for on-site master degree courses, 43 people have applied for them, so the enrolment rate is 3 people per place (2,53 people per place in 2018).
It should be noted that enrolees actively apply for off-site courses, and the most popular of them this year have become the following ones – in law, economics – financial planning, advertisement and PR, special (defectology) education – speech training, pedagogical education – physical education, and psychological and pedagogical education – pedagogical psychology.
The majority of enrolees for master degree courses are graduates of SSU and other Saratov universities (1,561 of them are from the Saratov Region). Also our enrolees are from the Volgograd, Penza, Tambov, Samara, Voronezh regions, Stavropol Krai, Moscow, and the Republic of Dagestan. Besides, our master degree courses will be attended by students from Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Kazakhstan, China, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.
Some master degree freshmen commented on their decision to enter the courses.
Elizaveta Syagina, a graduate from the SSU Institute of Philology and Journalism, said that bachelor degree graduates must definitely use an opportunity to improve their professional skills. Also Elizaveta added that she had become interested in research, and she would like to continue studying the connections between journalism and literature. Elizaveta had prepared for the exam using the books written by the professors of her institute, and she passed her exams very well (she received 92 points). Moreover, she was given 8 points for individual achievements as she had published her research paper in the Philological Essays journal. In total, Elizaveta received the highest possible result – 100 points.
Another master degree freshman Aleksei Karev, a graduate of the SSU Faculty of Law, a correspondent of the news from the Saratov State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company also remarked on his enrolling. He graduated from the faculty with diploma with honours and decided to study that hard further because he would have more advantages at the labour market due to master degree diploma. Aleksei is going to enter SSU postgraduate courses as Saratov University is the best in that respect. He has been working as a correspondent for almost a year, therefore, he would like to improve his skills in political journalism. Like Elizaveta Aleksei received the highest entrance result – 100 points. He is glad to continue studying in his favourite university.
